Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras!  The past few days here in Louisiana have been one big Mardi Gras celebration, ending today on Fat Tuesday.  As I said in a previous post, I have loved being in Louisiana these past few years, and really learning about the Mardi Gras traditions.  Of all of the festivities, I think the parades and the king cakes are some of my favorite aspects of Mardi Gras.  How much fun is it to go catch some beads, and then go home and indulge in some tasty cake?

While the largest Mardi Gras celebrations are in New Orleans, people all over Louisiana celebrate the holiday.  Baton Rouge hosts several parades and balls, one of which is called the Spanish Town parade.  As you can see in some of these pictures, the flamingo is the popular symbol for the Spanish Town Krewe so people down in Spanish Town will have their flamingos up all year.  Mardi Gras is definitely a lively season here in Louisiana and is a fun time to celebrate with friends family!
