Two weeks ago Darian and I took a weekend and went down to New Orleans to do some work and spend some time together.  It was the perfect mix of shooting content for the blog, eating good food and exploring New Orleans honestly.  We roamed for sure! (Stay tuned for a Graceful Guide to New Orleans!) BUT, while we were there, we were lucky enough to stay at the Catahoula Hotel off Union Street and y’all…it was AMAZING.  From the staff to the decor, this place was no joke.  I was a fan of this little spot before actually spending time there, but now I am already the planning the next time I can go back and stay!

When we got down to New Orleans on Friday, it had been a long week.  I told Darian that I really just wanted to lay in bed the next morning but I new we had A LOT to do.  So funny thing, we actually got up really early, went and took some pictures (you know, gotta have that morning light) then came and got back in bed!! It was perfect because I could re-group and act like was able to have a leisurely morning (which does not happen often).  It was exactly what I needed.  On our way back up to the room, we stopped by the bar downstairs at the Catahoula to pick up a coffee and a mimosa.  It was my kind of Saturday morning!

When I am traveling, it is easy for me to get lost in the vacation and lose sight of my work.  But sometimes, I just can’t do that.  I mean, a lot of times my vacation might be work so my mind is constantly racing.  I have to remember that I need to take a moment, sit, breathe and knock out a little bit of my to-do list so that when I return I am not swimming in deadlines.  Sometimes it might just be a little reading but regardless, I need that downtime to catch my breath.  Our room at the Catahoula was perfect because it had this little seating area where I could do just that.  We came back to the room early afternoon, put our comfy clothes on, turned on Law & Order and rested.  As I said before, the decor at the Catahoula had me swooning all weekend, and this little corner of our room was no exception.  I tried to think of a way to take this couch home with me, but then remembered that I wanted to be invited back…so I did leave it.  But I am in still in love with it!

After we rested for a bit, we were ready to get back at it.  Luckily, the Catahoula has a super cute bar inside of it called Piscobar.  In addition to the Piscobar though, they also have a rooftop bar, that you do not want to miss.  We actually went to a dance party up there on Saturday night and it was SO fun!  Anyways, we decided to get dressed again and went downstairs for a cocktail.  Just off the Piscobar is a little courtyard (pictured above) that is pretty much picture perfect.  With our drinks in hand, we ventured through the courtyard and make our way upstairs to the roof where the views were great and the party was happening!  Whether you start your night at the Catahoula, or stay there for the evening, you will not be disappointed either way!  The drinks (at both bars) were great and the atmosphere is even better!

One of the things I love about the Catahoula is the fact that it is a small boutique hotel.  A restored creole townhouse, originally built in 1845, the Catahoula is not lacking in charm.  Independently and locally run, this spot in nestled on a quiet street in the Central Business District, and they really know about that New Orleans life.  The staff feel like locals (because most of them are), so talking to them about evening plans is like having your own personal tour guide!  I have recently learned that this little project was a first for its owners and you can tell that they put so much into this space.  It is unique and special and has a “homey” feel, even in the middle of one of America’s most lively cities.  Whether you are looking for a weekend away, a girls trip, or even a stay-cation, I highly recommend the Catahoula.  They even do private events and weddings, so they have you covered!

Come Sunday when we had to pack our bags to leave, I was legitimately sad.  I loved everything about the Catahoula and would stay there any time I visit New Orleans.  Seriously, I have to go back in November and I am thinking I need to make another stop!
