It has been a hot minute since I have been able to do a travel recap for you guys. As I sit and write this, I am reminded of just how much I LOVE to do these travel guides. It honestly fills my soul and is so much fun for me. I do not always realize it when I am in the moment but planning the trip is part of the vacation for me. From our activities, to our outfits, I love making the lists and the plans before we leave, so to help you guys is the best! With all of that being said, I am finally recapping our West Texas adventure. I am re-living each moment as I write and I it is making me want to go back!

So, if you follow me on social media, then you saw recently that the hubs and I had a little getaway just the two of us. We ventured out to Terlingua, Texas for a few days and I have to say, it was one of my favorite trips we have ever done. From the beautiful hiking to our peaceful sunsets, this trip was full of adventure and relaxation all at the same time. I loved it. A few years ago, the girls and I took a trip to Marfa (see post here) and spent one day in Big Bend (see post here) but it was nice to go back with Jon Luke this time and do the opposite! So, to help answer any questions you may have, keep reading for all of the details!

Get Some Rest

The Local Chapter – Y’all…it is AMAZING! This is where we stayed for our trip and it did not disappoint at all. These yurts are LUXURY and I am here for the glamping vibe. Honestly, they are so spacious, they have heat and air, a full bathroom, fridge, coffee maker…I mean what more do you need? But the bed is amazing after a long day of hiking and they come with a telescope! I was honestly our favorite to just come home, pour a glass of wine and sit out on the porch for sunset! We pretty much followed part of their suggested itinerary also so you can read more on their site here!

The Willow House – This is another spot and I have a hotel crush on. It looks like such a cool vibe and I am here for the aesthetic for sure!

Basecamp Terlingua – While we spent time in town, I noticed a bunch of cool tipis and casitas. After doing some investigating, I found Basecamp Terlingua and their lodging looks awesome also!

Grab a Bite

The Starlight Theatre – Per the recommendation of The Local Chapter, we ate here almost every night. The margaritas were SO good (if you like spicy then get the horny toad) and they had a great variety of food. There was usually a wait but we would just hang out at the outside bar and enjoy a drink and it was perfect!

La Posada Milagro – We ate breakfast here every morning and it was SO good. The French toast is an absolute must in my opinion! It was a perfect start to the day after watching sunrise from the yurt!

DB’s Rustic BBQ – It doesn’t look like much but man is this some good BBQ. This is definitely a place you want to stop for lunch because once they run out, they close up shop! We went after a long morning of hiking and it was great!

Long Draw Pizza – If you’re looking for an easy grab-n-go, or just something quick and easy, Long Draw was perfect. After we finished riding horses one night, we rode over to grab some pizza and it was just what I needed after our ride!

What to Do

Hiking – Terlingua sits right at the entrance to Big Bend National Park. The entrance to the Local Chapter is actually right before the entrance to the park. There are SO many good trails inside the national park but the state park is also close by which has some more! Here is a list of some of the hikes we did/what was recommended to us!

Santa Elena Canyon

Lost Mine Trail

Window Trail

The Hoodoos

Chisos Basin Loop

Tuff Canyon

Lower Burrow Mesa Trail

Boquillas Canyon Trail

Ernst Tinaja Trail

Horseback Riding – We booked a sunset ride through Big Bend Stables. Just a short drive from the Local Chapter, this was such a beautiful way to end the evening!

Explore Terlingua Ghost Town – We only did this when we drove through for breakfast and dinner but there are definitely some cool things to see

Day trip to Marfa – We took the scenic route to Marfa and had a blast. You can take the long road through the state park for some views then enjoy a little shopping and food in Marfa!

Marfa

You can read more about my first trip to Marfa here, but here are some places I would HIGHLY recommend!

Shopping

Communitie Marfa – they have such cool stuff but the best hats!

The Marfa Store – such great Marfa goods!

Raba Marfa – such a cool vintage vibe

Marfa Brand Soap Co. – all home made soaps!

Food

Al Campo Wine Garden – This was SO good and such a great spot for an afternoon pick me up!

Para Llevar – Lots of people we talked with recommended this spot

And of course while you are there, go visit Prada Marfa!

Again, our West Texas adventure was one of my absolute favorites. I would go back in a heartbeat and do all of the same things. Honestly, I cannot wait to bring Miles back once he gets a little older because I think most of it is very family friendly and great for active kiddos! If I left something out, please feel free to email/DM me and I am happy to answer your questions!
